Indoor handball is the heart of Otago Handball, with weekly trainings held every Thursday night for players who want to learn, compete, and be part of a tight-knit team environment.

Otago is proudly represented by our women’s team Otago Toroa and men’s team Otago Sheep, who travel regularly to Wellington, Christchurch, and Waimate to compete in tournaments including the Southern Shield and Handball League Aotearoa Regionals.

Whether you’re new to the sport or chasing higher-level opportunities, indoor handball offers clear pathways to grow, travel, and even represent New Zealand at age-group level.

Beach handball brings the fun, flair, and fast-paced excitement of the game to the sand, with weekly trainings held at Tomahawk Beach throughout the summer months (practice times vary with the tides).

Our travelling teams compete at the New Zealand Beach Handball Championships, with a strong focus on growing beach handball both locally and nationally.

Our philosophy is simple: enjoyment breeds success — by developing skills, building confidence, and providing regular high-quality national camps and competitive games, we’re helping shape Aotearoa into a future force on the world beach handball stage.

schools league

Our Schools League is all about learning, confidence, and falling in love with the game.

Running weekly during Terms 1 and 4, high school teams (Years 9–13) compete every Wednesday at Kaikorai Valley High School in a fun, supportive environment.

With boys, girls, and mixed teams across competitive and social divisions, the league welcomes all experience levels – whether you’re trying a new sport, building skills, or just keen to play with friends and get excited about handball.
